Keynote speakers

Martin Barnes is Senior Curator of Photography at Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Since 1997 he has worked on the Photography Gallery at the V&A. His special interests include architecture, 19th-century and contemporary fine-art photography. Elizabeth Edwards professor and senior research fellow at the University of the Arts London (London College of Communication). Edwards was formerly the Head of Photograph Collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum and Lecturer in Visual Anthropology at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Oxford. Jens Erdman Rasmussen is Curator of Photography at The National Museum of Photography at The Royal Library in Copenhagen. He has studied photography, literature and communications in Paris, Prague and Copenhagen. Specific areas of interest include contemporary photography and video art with focus on the role of reality in artistic representation. Since the opening of The National Museum of Photography in 1999 he has curated and co-curated countless shows including "Short Stories", "Achtung! Kunst!" and "Songs from the Cold Seas", the latter currently on show at the Museum. Selected publications: (ed.) Joan M. Schwartz is Queen's National Scholar in the Department of Art, Queen's University, Kingston, and Adjunct Research Professor in History and Geography at Carleton University, Ottawa,Canada. A Fellow of the Society of American Archivists, she holds a PhD in Historical Geography and from 1977 to 2003, she was a specialist in photography acquisition and research at the National Archives of Canada. Martin Lister is Professor Emeritus of Visual Culture in the Department of Culture, Media, and Drama, Faculty of Creative Arts, UWE, Bristol. He has published widely on photography, media history, and new media. He has a particular interest in the place of photography within a new media ecology. He published some of the earliest work on the relationship of photography to new media technologies including: The Photographic Image in Digital Culture. London and New York, Routledge, 1995, and the CD-ROM: From Silver to Silicon: A CD-ROM about photography, technology and culture, London, ARTEC, 1996. His recent work includes: ‘A Sack in the Sand: Photography and Information’, in Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies, Sage, 2008 and the first edition (2003) and second edition (2008) of New Media: A Critical Introduction, Routledge. In 2008 he curated ‘Images of Europe’ for ‘Heresies’: a world retrospective of Pedro Meyer’s photography, http://www.pedromeyer.com/museums/mfs.php. He is an editor of the journal ‘Photographies’.
