History and what to see Welcome to Julita, situated in beautiful surroundings on the shores of lake Öljaren in the heart of Sörmland. In the middle ages Julita was a monastery. It later became a state demesne and still later a manor house owned by members of the Swedish nobility. At Julita you will find a complete country estate from before the turn of the 20th century, preserved with all its exquisite interiors, parks, orchard, green house, kitchen garden, its own dairy, fire station, church, brickworks – in fact everything that was part of a large estate of that time. Julita is Sweden´s Museum of Agriculture and holds gene banks for apples, pears and rhubarbs, and peony garden, native breeds of domestic animals, agricultural exhibits, a modern free-range barn and walking tracks in a cultural landscape. Julita for children Pettson and Findus, well known from the books by Sven Nordkvist, have their farm at Julita. Children of all ages are welcome to visit. You can also purchase local produce. Café and restaurants Café Julita Skans offers homemade bread, sandwiches and coffee/tea, drinks and ice-cream. The restaurant, Julita Wärdshus, offers set menus as well as a'la carte dining. Events There are lots of events at Julita all year round. The main annual festivals are celebrated in traditional style, such as Walpurgis Night, Midsummer 18-19th June and Christmas Market at the end of October. Theme Days are also arranged every year such as Agriculture Day in July and Apple Day in September. In July there is also a festival with classical concerts, The Julita Festival. Rooms Visitors are welcome to stay the night (Bed&Breakfast) in one of Julita´s charming rooms in the manor wings from the 17th century, or in the new youth hostel.
