Discover the museum together! Families with children will find plenty of activities at Nordiska Museet. Enjoy our quests and family trails throughout the museum or one of our interactive experiences for children and families.

 

Mission: The Arctic

Would you be able to survive in the Arctic? Take your family on a journey through the iceberg in the exhibition The Arctic – While the ice is melting and meet people who will tell you more about life in the northernmost places on the planet.

You will have a map to guide you, along with help from Sickis the dog. A great activity for anyone curious, wanting to learn Arctic lifehacks.

When: Every day during our standard opening hours.
How: The staff at the reception will provide a map, along with instructions.

Who: Children (from about seven years and up) and adults.

Mission: The Marzipan Thief

A precious marzipan figurine has disappeared from the museum. Who took it? Follow the clues through the museum and help solve the mystery.

Who: Children, five years and up, in the company of an adult.
When: Every day during our standard opening hours.
Where: Throughout the museum.
How: The staff at the reception will provide a map.
Language: English

The Children’s Playhouse

Travel back to the 1890s, and life on a farm. Using imagination and play, you can explore life without mobile phones, running water, or electricity. Tend the wooden animals at the farm, fetch water from the well, cook on the woodstove, and buy some coffee in the village shop. The gårdstomte, the gnome and guardian spirit of the farm, will keep a watchful eye on your work.

Please note: Children cannot be left unattended, and must be accompanied by an adult in the Playhouse.

Who: Children, five years and up, in the company of an adult.
When: The Playhouse is open Saturdays and Sundays, 11.00–15.30
How: Ticket reservations can be made for a 50-minute visit with a limited number of admissions.
Language: Brief informative texts in English will offer tips and guidance.

For families with older children, the audio guide is a fun and informative way to discover the highlights of the museum. You can borrow our audio guide for free, or download it yourself. Available in several languages, and suitable for the curious looking to learn more.

When: Every day during our standard opening hours.
How: The staff at the reception will help you get started.
Who: Children (from about ten years and up) and adults.

Languages: English, German, Spanish, Russian, French, Finnish, Italian, Arabic, and Mandarin.The audio guide is free to borrow. You can download the audio guide to your smartphone, or use the one available at the museum.

The Time Vault

In the deepest underground vaults of the museum, there is a magical place – the Time Vault. Step through the secret portal to find yourself in the children’s very own history! Discover everyday life in the 1880's, 1940's or 1980's.The Time Vault is an interactive experience for children aged 8 years and up.

Please note: inside the Time Vault, English texts are still limited. Please ask the staff about your options for visiting the Time Vault.

Who: Children, 8 to 12 years, in the company of an adult.
When: Please consult our ticket app for opening hours. 
How: Ticket reservations can be made for a 90-minute visit with a limited number of admissions. 
Language: Swedish. Some sections offer texts in English.
