Do you have 30 minutes, an hour, or a whole day to spend at the museum? Are you visiting as an adult or with children? Let us suggest a suitable set-up for your visit at Nordiska museet in Stockholm!

Our suggested set-ups

Explore the Highlights and the Museum shop

  • Follow the audio guide track ‘Highlights’ on a tour through the museum. The track takes approximately 15-20 minutes and is suitable for adults and teenagers aged 13 and above.
  • Available in ten languages
  • Conclude your visit with a browse through our Museum shop on your way out.

Two suggestions for an enjoyable half hour with us:

  1. Solve a mystery together in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief’ following clues throughout the museum.
  2. Take on the challenge in ‘Mission: The Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall.

In 1 hour, you can explore the museum quickly in 3 ways:

  1. Follow the audio guide track ‘Highlights’ (15–20 minutes) and enjoy a coffee in the restaurant.
  2. Visit all the exhibitions (you’ll cover a lot but won’t have time for in-depth exploration).
  3. Explore an exhibition with an Audioguide + coffee or a visit to the museum shop:
    • ‘The Arctic’ can be explored in 45 minutes (the audio guide track is 40 minutes long).
    • ‘Table Settings’ can be explored in 30-45 minutes (the audio guide track is 40 minutes long).
    • ‘STRINDBERG VS. YOUSSEF’ can be explored in 30–45 minutes.

In 2 hours, you can do much more. Here are 3 options:

  1. Visit all our exhibitions.
  2. Choose your preferred exhibitions, dine in the restaurant, and explore the museum shop.
  3. Follow the audio guide track ‘Highlights’ (15–20 minutes), dine in the restaurant, and explore the Museum shop.

1 enjoyable hour together, three ways:

  1. Book a slot in the Children’s Playhouse and experience life on a farm in the 1890s (for children aged 5 and above, 45 minutes).
  2. Solve a mystery together in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief’ (approximately 45 minutes).
  3. Take on the challenge and follow the lapdog Sickis in ‘Mission: Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall.

2 hours with children aged 5 and above:

  • Book a slot in the Playhouse and experience life on a farm in the 1890s (45 minutes). Or solve the mystery in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’ Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.

2 hours with children aged 8 and above:

  • Book a slot in the Time Vault and take a journey through time (45-90 minutes). Or complete ‘Mission: Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall. Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant

Experience the entire museum:

  1. Begin by watching our introductory film ‘The Story of Nordiska museet’ on the first floor.
  2. Explore all exhibitions with our Audioguide (approximately 4 hours of audio content).
  3. Take a break in the restaurant with coffee or lunch.
  4. Browse the Museum shop on the first floor and purchase a beautiful gift or a memento from your visit.
  5. On your way out, discover the art portal ‘Two Directions’ on the first floor leading to the museum’s courtyard.
  6. Don’t miss seeing the museum’s courtyard dog, Sickis, as a sculpture, and conclude your visit at Café Lusknäppen.

Children aged 5 and above:

  • Book a slot in the Children’s Playhouse (45 minutes) and experience life on a farm in the 1890s.
  • Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
  • Solve the mystery in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’
  • Feeling energetic? Take on ‘Mission: The Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall.

Children aged 8 and above:

  • Book a slot in the Time Vault (45-90 minutes) and take a journey through time.
  • Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
  • Conclude with ‘Mission: The Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall, or ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’

Children aged 13 and above:

  • The interactive experience in the Time Vault is suitable for everyone from 8 years old, including adults and teenagers.
  • The audio guide track ‘Highlights’ is suitable for adults and children aged 13 and above and takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
  • The exhibitions ‘Arctic – as the ice melts,’ ‘Traditions,’ and ‘Set Table settings’ all have slightly longer audio guide tracks suitable for teenagers as well.
